Sparring Gear Information

The sparring gear you need depends on your instructor.

He may need you to buy a certain brand or color. Some allow any color or type and those instructors are usually the best.

There are three types: Vinyl, Cloth, and Foam.

Vinyl sparring gear will last a lot longer than foam but it is not as comfortable.

Foam sparring gear is both more comfortable and more popular. Foam also comes in double padding versions for extra protection, which is especially nice for head protection.

Cloth sparring gear is more for arm guards and shin guards. They make for excellent under uniform protection. Some people even wear shin and instep guards for added protection with their regular sparring gear. One really nice thing about cloth sparring gear is that it is the least expensive.

Most people wear sparring gear for the head, hands, and feet. But some companies make shin guards and forearm guards too.

  12. Nice article. In my opinion one of the best forms of martial arts is Brazilian Jujitsu and one of the best teachers is Marcus Soares http://www.marcussoares.com who has a Vancouver jujitsu club and is considered one of the best instructors in he world. He is a direct student of Carlson Gracie and is the highest ranking BJJ black belt under Carlson with 7 degrees. I think BJJ and grappling id the best for mixed martial arts.
